Here's an easy, inexpensive craft project that makes a wonderful gift for teens and adults alike.
Ingredients/Materials:
- 2 cups Epsom salts - get from the grocery store
- 1 cup olive oil - grocery store
- 8 drops essential oils - craft store (Michaels or AC Moore). Here's a great hub on the benefits of essential oils.
- 2-4 drops food coloring - the more drops you use, the darker the end product
- 6 - 4 oz. glass canning-type jars - $.99 at the craft store
- 6 - 1/4 - 1/2 teaspoon spoons - grocery store
- Elastic ribbon - craft store
- Labels or stickers
Instructions:
- In a medium bowl, stir together Epsom salts and olive oil. Mix well.
- Add essential oil, one drop at a time, stirring after each drop. Note: When choosing which oil(s) to get, try to pair the fragrance with the color you will be using (i.e., red food color with grapefruit essential oil; red & blue food coloring with lavender essential oil; green food coloring with eucalyptus essential oil, etc.). Add drops of essential oil until you achieve the scent you desire.
- Add food coloring, one drop at a time, stirring after each drop until the desired color is achieved. Mix well.
- Spoon mixture into glass canning-type jars until full.
- Label each jar with what the contents are (i.e., Vanilla Salt Scrub, Grapefruit Salt Scrub)
- Cut a piece of elastic ribbon large enough to tie around the neck of the jar and attach one of the teaspoon scoops to each jar by running the ribbon through the whole at the end of the teaspoon.
Your salt body scrubs are ready to be wrapped and gifted. This project takes about 20-30 minutes to complete and the cost for each jar of scrub is under $5.

sure thing, I was thinking of adding a link to this one as well showing another use for the oils. if that is ok?

great hub, this is a whole lot cheaper than the $20 they charge for this stuff at B&BW. By the way I have a hub about essential oils and there are links to which ones are good for different uses. It also is one of the weekly hubnuggets to vote on.
